little thoughts

Carpe Diem

Often times we find myself thinking about the future or reminiscing about past events. Sometimes, we even beat ourselves up about our pasts and stress ourselves out about the future that we forget to live in the moment! I am guilty of this – everyone is! But I learned a long time ago that life is better when you live in the moment. When you stop thinking of the past and worrying about the future, you will find that life is more enjoyable! This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t have goals and dreams, because we should. But we should enjoy each moment in our journey until we reach our destination. Seizing the moment allows us to really grasp and value the meaning of life. Life becomes more beautiful.

When I was in high school, I constantly talked about the future. I always talked about going to college then getting married and having kids by the time I was 25. News flash, ANYTHING can happen. And at any moment, life will throw a wicked curveball at you.

My perspective on how I lived my life changed after something tragic happened. Back in 2012, I woke up one morning to find out that a friend of mine passed away. He was my cousins best friend. I remember everything about that moment. I didn’t want to believe it. We were just together a week before celebrating his 22nd birthday. And just like that he was gone.

He was so full of life. He lived every moment like it should be lived. And even though his life was cut short, I knew that it was always lived to it’s fullest. He lived in the moment. Sometimes something tragic has to happen in order for you to realize that you haven’t been living your life the way you want to – or the way it should be. It’s unfortunate, but that’s the ugly truth.

There are some days where I just want to lay in bed, forget about the world and reflect on life by myself. But I am finally living life the way I always should have. I take more chances. I take the time to sit back and enjoy the little moments. To enjoy the beauty in life. And when I make mistakes, I learn from them. I make every moment count!

Living in the moment means letting go of the past, embracing the present, and trusting in the future. When you are more optimistic, your future will be much more positive. And you won’t think back in 5 years or 10 years from now and think, “Man, I really wish I would have done this.” We owe it to ourselves to make each and every day count. Enjoy your life. Enjoy the moments.

Carpe Diem baby!!

xoxo,

Athena
